Agility In The Year 2020

6I haven't written a blog post in quite some time. This year of 2020 has been quite the year. The year started out with goals and aspirations for Max to try out for EO and travel to Europe for some other big competitions. In February that all came to an end when he took a bad spill and was temporarily paralyzed from a spine injury. This injury led to a series of vet visits, travel to VOSM for diagnosis, many hours of rehab and healing with Theravet Acres and a full time focus of at home conditioning program led by Carolyn McIntyre from Canada.

Between rehabbing Max and training my puppy Sirius the foundations of agility, life was busy in spite of the pandemic. Vet visits were different since we had curbside service, conditioning was on line instruction, Sirius was trained at home until classes and seminars were able to be held safely.

While unable to travel to dog shows, we decided to do other things. We took the camper and hiked a lot. We planted a garden. I rediscovered the artist inside of me by painting rocks. I made bread from scratch and did a whole lot of cooking since going to a restaurant was out of the question. So life was still productive. Luckily my day job allowed me to work from home so my exposure was limited to contracting this virus.

My son and his wife brought twin baby girls into this world in August. What a bright spot in a pandemic and angry divided world. Between wildfires, racial division, election hatred and ugly social media posts, I tried to avoid it all and focus on the good things. New life, Max competing again (and winning!), successful first competition for Sirius and being healthy are all wonderful things. Did we have losses this year? Yes we did. My beautiful cousin of only 56 years old passed. My inherited little sweet Brinna crossed over the bridge into the waiting arms of her owner Jacquelyn. These losses are felt deeply but we have to look for the bright side. We cannot dwell in the past as it cannot be changed. Tomorrow may not come....but today........today is now and that is where I like to focus. I strive for patience and peace for today.
This alone time has been very reflective. I have decided that I love my house and my life. I love who I am and I am satisfied with where I am right now in life. It is soothing and relaxing to  hike with the dogs and spend quiet moments sitting by the creek listening to the water bubble and run over the rocks.
