Summer 2018: It is July and it seems as though summer is zipping by. This year the European competition is called Jutlandia Cup. It is held in Denmark but on the West coast instead of the East coast. For the cost of one dog show weekend (4 runs), we will run 17 runs over 6 days! For someone who loves to play the game, this venue provides all that and more. It is a vacation with my dog, it is agility at it's finest, it is international, it is an adventure.
I sent in my entries way back in February and received confirmation in May. Once the flights were booked, reality sets in. The courses I looked up always seem impossible and fear of our lack of skills on these types of courses starts to rise. But fear is exciting in a sense. A challenge is exciting. Exposure to this level of competitors is what pushes us to rise to the occasion.
My boss at my previous job asked me once; "How long are you going to do this agility competition?" My answer: As long I my legs will carry me! We age, there is no getting around that but in this game, you do the best you can for your 4 legged partner and you have fun doing it. I am having a blast!
It exactly one week before Max and I leave. My bags are somewhat packed, vet work is done, Max is bathed and beautiful. We will work on some more skill work this week in my agility field and we are READY!!!
Pictures and our trip experience in the next posting!
